Creative quilting patterns
Hi everyone,
Do you also have multiple pincushions? I have a few scattered around my workspace so I always have pins within reach. For this blog, I made this adorable little chicken to add to my pincushion collection! Of course, you could also make this cute chicken for Easter or spring decor. It’s also a great project for using up fabric scraps. So, if you’ve got some leftover fabric and space for a new pincushion, read on and get started on making your own cute chicken!
P.S.: Have you seen the latest Knipmode? Starting from the March edition, I’ll be giving advice on how to adjust patterns. If you’ve read it, I’d love to know what you think of the section! Leave your comments below!
What you'll need:
Fabric
Felt (or a yellow cleaning cloth 🙂)
Stuffing
Step 1:
Cut two squares of fabric, 12 x 12 cm (4 3/4" x 4 3/4"). Of course, you can make a larger or smaller chicken if you like!
Step 2:
Cut out a little comb and beak from felt for your chicken. Place the comb 1 cm (3/8") from the edge and the beak about 1.5 cm (5/8") from the edge. I used tape instead of pins to hold them in place.
Step 3:
Place the second square on top, right sides together, and pin it in place.
Step 4:
Sew along the left side, top, and bottom (leaving a 1 cm seam allowance). Be sure to leave a small opening at the bottom for turning the chicken inside out later.
Step 5:
Trim the corners of the top left and bottom left to reduce bulk.
Step 6:
Now comes the fun part—similar to opening a bag of chips! Open up the chicken by pulling the top right corner towards the bottom right corner, then pin it in place.
Step 7:
Sew the remaining seam, then trim the corners and turn your chicken right side out through the opening.
Step 8:
Isn’t it adorable? Stuff your chicken with filling (I used a pillow from Action) and close up the opening at the bottom with a neat stitch.
Finally, add two black pins for eyes, and your cute chicken pincushion is ready!
